FAQs

Below are some of the questions we are often asked by our customers.  If you have any further questions, please email us on info@expeditionfoods.com and we’ll be happy to answer them for you.

What size meals do you offer?

We provide 3 sizes of meals – 800kcals (High Energy meals), 450kcals (Single Serving meals) and 1000kcals (Double Serving meals).  We would recommend using the 800kcal or 1000 kcal meals for high energy activities such as running, mountaineering, rowing or exploring. The 450kcal range is for more standard activities such as camping, hiking or when you need to have a light meal on the go. Drop us an email at info@expeditionfoods.com if you are unsure which size to use.

What is a kcal?

Technically there is a difference between a kilocalorie (kcal) and a calorie (cal), and the correct term for the energy found in food is kilocalories. However, in today’s terminology, when the calories found in food are referred to, kilocalories (kcals) and calories (cals) are interchangeable i.e. 1kcal = 1cal.

How do I know how much water to add to each meal?

The amount of water needed, which varies by meal, is provided on every label.  Please note that this is guide only. The information is also provided on the website under the product details -- see "Water required". The best way to prepare a meal is to slowly add hot water while stirring until the meal is fully rehydrated.

How many calories do I need per day?

An average man with a balanced diet needs about 2,500kcal a day to maintain his weight and an average woman needs 2,000kcal. However, this changes greatly with a number of factors such as exercise, age and level of fitness. If you are unsure as to how many calories you should be consuming for your specific activity, please contact us.

Do you have gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian meals or vegan meals?

We have a great range of gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan meals.

I’m a coeliac.  Which meals can I eat?

We offer a good range of gluten free meals which are suitable for everyone with coeliac disease.

Do your meals contain nuts?

Our manufacturing facility has a nut-free policy that all staff adhere to.  We aren't able to certify that our products are nut free as we can't guarantee all the suppliers in our supply chain have fully nut-free facilities.
