Bukhsuuri Bazar, known simply as Bazar, is a 21‑year‑old herder from the remote mountains of Khovd province, and he’s preparing to take on one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges: the Gobi March (Mongolia) 2026.
Raised in a nomadic family and shaped by the physical demands of herding livestock across rugged, high‑altitude terrain, Bazar’s endurance was forged long before he ever laced up a pair of running shoes. His daily life—gathering animals in the mountains, taming colts, loading camels, and walking long distances—became the foundation for his athletic ability.

He only began formal training in 2025, yet he has already completed the Ulaanbaatar Marathon in under four hours. Now, he’s turning his focus to the desert.
Bazar’s training ground is the mountains of Khovd, where he walks long distances each day while tending to his animals. The landscape that shaped him is the same landscape that now prepares him for the Gobi’s extremes.
For the race, Bazar plans to rely on durable, high‑quality gear and nutrient‑dense food—supported by Expedition Foods, whose meals will fuel his week‑long journey across the desert.

As the Gobi March draws closer, we reconnect with Bazar in the mountains of western Mongolia. His training has become more focused, his gear choices more deliberate, and his connection to the land even more central to how he prepares. From long runs at altitude to traditional high‑fat foods and life in a ger, Bazar’s journey shows how endurance is shaped not just by training plans, but by culture, environment, and resilience.
